I completed a four year Bachelor’s of Arts degree from a liberal arts college. It was close to ten thousand dollars per year for tuition after subtracting my grants and scholarships, and that was not including room and board! I did not even live at college, yet I was paying that much money. And you know what? I could have gotten an associate degree online and been in just about the same place after graduation with my communications degree.
I took a few online courses from a community college to complete some credits towards my degree during the summer. This led me to find out about their associate degree online program. The program was only a few hundred dollars per semester because it was a community college and they were not paying for a classroom being used. They still had to pay a professor to assign readings and upload tests, but the costs were significantly cheaper for those that were obtaining their associate degree online rather than through the traditional classroom setting.
If you are considering getting an associate degree online, it is great for several reasons. The main reason, though, is that if you are doing this while you do not have a flexible schedule, such as if you are working full time or have small children at home, you are able to complete assignments and “take” the classes at any time during the day. You can log in at midnight and earn your credits for your associate degree online. There are no colleges that I am aware of that would offer traditional classes at that hour, but if this is the only time of day you are available for classes, then this is an excellent alternative.
Getting an associate degree online is not for everyone. You truly have to be motivated to complete the task, otherwise it is very easy to forget about the classes and fall very far behind. Also, if you are a person that needs hands on teaching methods and a professor available immediately rather than through email, then getting your associate degree online may not be the best option for you.
If you are looking into going to college, be sure to check into all the options that are available to you. Sure there are the traditional four year degrees from colleges and universities, but check out what is available in the forms of associate degrees and an associate degree online if you are looking to save money and get a degree to build off of.

One should just observe and read the reports on education today will quickly recognize disadvantages of public education. If we just read the numerous reports on public schooling, we have to ask ourselves are our children truly receiving a quality education. An enormous amount of public funds are being expended on public education and every election year it becomes a political football. We end up with programs like "No Child Left Behind". So truly are our children receiving the best education and are our education systems using the best teaching methods to promote learning? Report after report on public schooling tells us that children are not being taught how to think logically, scientifically and analytically. Therefore, our children are not being prepared by our public schooling to compete in today's global economy. The United States public schooling system is teaching children how to be the median student, because they gear their teaching methods to the average student. This is why so many parents choose to pay for private schooling or utilize homeschooling. For years it has been touted that one of the greatest benefits of public education was its ability to teach socialization skills. If the public schooling system is suppose to teach social skills, then why is there so much unhealthy peer pressure and disrespect towards their peers and teachers? Students are learning how to cheat and just get by, which they will carry into their future jobs and social lives. Children in the public schooling system only learn how to interact with their peers because the public schooling system segregates students by age or grade categories. School children to day are not taught how to deal with adults. If the public schooling system was teaching social skills, then why is there so much bullying taking place in schools and so many unhealthy social clicks amongst students. When it comes to socialization skills a homeschooling environment provides a more normal social environment. Another disadvantage of public schooling is the lack of students learning to read, understand, think and enjoy literature. The same holds true with learning mathematics. Students are to busy doing busy work or working on materials, so they can be taught to pass an examination. A current disadvantage of public schooling system, school boards of education, teachers, and teachers' unions are so overly concerned about receiving the highest scores in their state or nationally so they can get more tax payer dollars or higher pay, rather on increasing a child's knowledge and depth of education. Too many students being graduated from the public educations systems are ill prepared for life and a highly competitive world. What they may have been taught to pass an examination has no correlation with life living skills and knowledge. They have been taught a lot of information, but do not know how to apply it logically and analytically. This is where homeschooling is demonstrating a distinct advantage over public schooling. Home schooled children are being better prepared for the world they live in.

What are the benefits of homeschooling rather than send off to public schools? Consider your normal daily routine of not having the hassle every morning at 7:00 a.m. of getting the children up, dressed, fed and to school. Plus the anxiety that fills you while they are gone and in the hands of others learning who knows what.
Homeschooling gives you more control over the influences that affect your child. The growth and development of your child is removed from the realm of the unknown. You and you alone can decide what your child needs to do or learn. One of the most obvious benefits of homeschooling is that you have the ability to adapt the home school curriculum to meet the interests, abilities and needs of each child.
An additional significant benefit of homeschooling is the ability to provide individual attention. In the homeschooling environment, the teaching and learning is structured for each child to the amount of time needed to learn a more complex subject like math while allowing less time for English lessons. There are no fixed hours of learning per subject. This means that a child has the advantage of assigning more hours for those subjects the additional effort without applying unnecessary anxiety. Learning sessions for each subject will depend on the abilities and interests of the child.
Home schooling of the child becomes an extended family activity. Parents are drawn in to all aspects of the learning process. Therefore, the child and parents share more quality time together. Homeschooling allows the whole family to participate together in chores, games and projects. A definite benefit of homeschooling is the focus on family understanding and closeness. Each child is given to opportunity to make choices and participate in decision making without unconstructive peer pressure.
Within a homeschooling curriculum competitive limits are minimized. The child does not need to prove his ability with regards to other children. Thus each child’s self-confidence remains undamaged. Homeschooling learning programs are designed to stimulate each child’s interests, because parents have an innate comprehension of their child. It is easier to intermingle more difficult learn assignment with activities which are fun, like going on outings, which have a learning purpose underlying. Learning is structured to be a fun event.
Parents customize the homeschooling curriculum to meet the learning style of the child. Some children learn through reading, while others need to write, and still other children are more visual and need to see things in action.
Home education programs provide parents the latitude over the moral and religious learning of the child. Parents have the flexibility to incorporate their beliefs and ideologies into the child's curriculum. The child’s mind is not confused because there is consistency between what is taught and practiced.
Last but not least, the perception held by more parents is the mediocre quality of education provided in the public school systems has disillusioned them. Parents believe their child is pushed too hard based on their abilities or not enough. Another issue of concern is related to discipline or lack there of and ethics in the public school system. The age old educational philosophy for combining children by age is not acceptable.
Parents still harbor their own unpleasant memories regarding their public school days. This by its self is a very strong motivator for them to choose home schooling for their children. The benefits of homeschooling are the most excellent way of teaching children if you have the time, the ability and the interest to follow through with his education. After all, nobody can understand or appreciate your child more than yourself.

What is “homeschooling” or home school and what should you know about homeschooling? It can best be defined as methods for providing education at home for children instead of in a public or private institution. Prior to formal public education and compulsory school attendance, education of children was accomplished by the family or village. Home education, is teaching or tutoring conducted under the supervision of their parents or legal guardian. Each State has established laws, which defines homeschooling. The legal requirements for establishing a homeschool also vary with the State.
For most children, the actual process of learning begins much before starting school. Parents have started teaching children their alphabets, colors, animals and more complex learning skills, like counting, before they would normally start school. This is mostly due to the hard work of a member of the family who has taken the time to begin teaching their children.
Therefore, homeschooling would be a normal sequence to be followed in educating children. Instead of sending their children to a public school, parents make their own homeschooling curriculum and teach their children in ways that best suit the child. This is homeschooling, in its most simplistic form.
Many parents have chose the homeschooling option because the want to provide a higher quality education to their children than what consider to be attainable in public schools. They consider it their right to choose how their children will be educated.
Prior to choosing to undertake home education, you must consider essential questions regarding laws and regulation, teaching methods, financial and social concerns, impact on the child, and qualifications to teach. To begin with consult with other parents of homeschoolers or a homeschooling support group, to gain a deeper understand as to all that is involved. Do your research and determine all of the homeschooling pros and cons. Ask yourself the fundamental question of what it is you want to achieve by choosing this approach for a school at home. The answer to this question is critical to the overall success for your homeschooling program, will be dependent on the clarity and sincerity of your purpose.
What will it cost to conduct homeschooling? Every year these costs could range up to several thousand dollars. Determine if your financial situation is dependent upon a two person income, because one of the parents will have to be giving up an income job opportunity. Even if some of the teaching is to be shared, it is most likely one of the parents will have to stay home full time to manage the homeschool. A home-based business however is a great alternative.
Are you qualified to take on homeschooling for your children? Teaching is a continuation of your own learning process. With the advent of the internet, homeschooling resources are aplenty. There are various books and resources for those interested in homeschooling. Go through the various methods of homeschooling and choose one that is most suited to you. It helps if you know what kind of learning style your child has. Consideration should be given to how your children think on the subject of homeschooling before commencing.
Since every state has its specific regulations and laws regulating homeschooling. Just for example: Colorado, you must first file a 'Notice of Intent' to start a home school. In this filing you must specify the type of homeschooling program, a “private church” school or “qualified public” school. The person designated to present home education must have at least a high school diploma. You have to maintain an annual record of the child's attendance and disease immunization. Yearly each child must take a state standardized test. Then each child attending the eleventh grade must complete a national standardized examination. This is just an example of one State’s requirements, however, it is enough to give you a good idea of what homeschooling entails.
Homeschooling may seem like a lot of fun and freedom from the outside, but it is not a simple as it may appear. Homeschooling requires much more responsibility, hard work, and has many pros and cons. Some of the benefits from a successful home school will be the creation of solid relationship of respect and love connecting the child and parents, while providing your child with the best form of education he needs.

Online colleges are becoming more and more popular nowadays. They are geared towards working adults who want to either return to school to finish a degree or simply further their education. Online colleges focus on the adults who simply do not have the time or schedules to allow them to attend classes at a college campus. Most distant learning programs are highly accredited and have some wonderful programs. You can find almost any degree or program that you can imagine. Many working adults have turned their dreams of obtaining that degree into realities for them.
The best website to begin your research is www.directoryofonlineschools.com. On that site, you will find an extensive list of online colleges listing all of their offerings and allow you to ask for more information. Make sure you do some research on any online colleges that you may be considering first. Check out their accreditations and their reputation. Don't make that expensive commitment unless you know it will be more than worthwhile.
Two years ago, my wife was contemplating finishing her bachelor's degree. She was a brand new mother and working full-time, so the only options she had was to check into some online colleges. She found two that she was interested in and requested some information. Representatives from both colleges responded to her almost immediately and continued to call her for months to come. It was more than annoying after the first week. The representatives of these online colleges while very knowledgeable were also a bit too pushy for her liking. They wanted her to submit an application that same day and get the process started. One of the online colleges offered her a tuition discount if she enrolled within five days. While it was a decent discount, she was not ready to make that commitment, she was still in her information gathering stages.
Tuition for most online colleges is not cheap by any means. In fact, it is very competitive with attending a regular college but without the room and board. For your tuition though, you get the flexibility of fitting your education around your schedule. You are able to do your schoolwork and tests at any hour of the day and work at your own pace. You have one on one contact with professors and other students. Your books are shipped directly to you and the online colleges make it as easy as possible to revolve around your lifestyle. Financial aid is offered just as a regular college, and sometimes, you can find some scholarships through online colleges but don't count on that.
While webucation are an excellent choice for some adults who are eager to continue to move forward with their futures, make certain that you are making the right choice for you. Don't make that commitment to an online college education program without doing your homework and making comparisons. You owe that to yourself and your future.
